Mrs. Candace Edmonds' students receive a special gift from H&R Block. The students pictures above are the recipients of a gift card valued at $25. These students have been awarded this gift because of their participation in the program offered by H&R Block in the Personal Finance Class.
Mrs. Candace Edmonds has been instrumental in helping our students to achieve this award. The Personal Finance class helps students to learn how to manage money. Valley Head High School Principal Bill Monroe stated, "This is great for our students," We as a faculty are very proud to have Mrs. Edmonds, and the time and effort she puts in with our students.
Spring Hill College is a private, Roman Catholic Jesuit liberal arts college in the Spring Hill neighborhood of Mobile, Alabama, United States. It was founded in 1830 by Most Rev. Michael Portier, Bishop of Mobile.
Spring Hill is the first Catholic college in the Southeast, the third oldest Jesuit college in the country and the fifth oldest Catholic college in America.
As a staff member of Valley Head, we are always excited and proud of our students and the hard work they put forth in education. I would like to thank Northeast Alabama Community College, Mrs. Rhonda Lasser (our Duel-Enrollment) teacher on staff, and all of our faculty for the work they put forth in helping our students to achieve success.
I would also like to say "Great Job and Congratulations" to Sydney for the hard work she has put forth which taking her Duel Enrollment class.
SMEC has sent two students from its service area on an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. every year since 1969. Winners are selected during the annual Youth Tour Day competition, which is held at the co-op office each spring. School sponsors select two juniors from each high school in the co-op service area to compete.
Brooke was selected as one of the four to visit Montgomery.
Four winners were selected to attend the Montgomery Youth Tour and two of those four win a trip to Washington, D.C. as part of that tour. Both trips are expense free for the winning students.
Valley Head Juniors received invitations to attend a dinner provided by the Auburn Alumni of DeKalb County. We would like to send special thank to Vintage 1889 Cafe and the Auburn Alumni of Dekalb County.
Kenzie is a senior at Valley Head High School who enjoys not only academic success, but also plays on varsity Basketball and Softball teams. Kenzie's future plans are to attend Jacksonville State University, where she has qualified for a Gamecock Scholars Scholarship valued at $10,800. While attending JSU, Kenzie plans to major in Nursing, and later work towards here career as a Flight Nurse.
As a student at Valley Head High School, Kenzie has been a member of both Junior and Senior Beta clubs, Scholar's Bowl team, and Class President for 3 years. She was also a TGIF Team Leader for 2 years, and the winner of the Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, where she visited both Montgomery, AL and Washington D.C. Kenzie has also had success athletically. As a Varsity Basketball player she has been named All Area, All County, and All County Tournament Team twice. In Softball she has been named both All Area, and All County.
We are very proud of all of our students at Valley Head High School and would like to congratulate Mackenzie "Kenzie" on a great start towards her future!
Shorter University is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university located in Rome, Georgia. Founded in 1873, it is a Christian university historically affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention.
Shorter University has awarded Valley Head Senior Dylan Lewis admission, and with the admissions process has also awarded him a grant to put towards his tuition. The grant will be a total of $4,800. We are very proud of all of our students at Valley Head High School, and would like to wish Dylan congratulations!
Valley Head High School is very proud of its students and the accomplishments that they have. One such student that the counselor's office would like to recognize is Stephanie Poe. Stephanie is a senior at Valley Head and along with being a cheerleader, Stephanie also attends the DeKalb County Career Tech School. As one of those attending students, Stephanie represented DeKalb County in the Alabama HOSA State Leadership competition, in the category of Medical Spelling.
HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.
HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, post-secondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions.
Stephanie stated that "I had a great time, and it was a great experience!" She also explained that the Medical Spelling competition is a category where "You have to be familiar with spelling medical terms, and also their prefixes." She went on to explain that "In the competition, you would be given a paper, multiple choice test, where you are given the definition of a word. You had to choose the correct spelling of the term." Stephanie had the opportunity to compete and represent not only Valley Head High School, but the DeKalb County Career Tech School. She also had the opportunity to visit the Alabama State Capital. Stephanie was impressed with our state capital and stated that, "It was BEAUTIFUL!" Stephanie added, "I enjoyed staying at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa Convention Center, and getting to dress professional for the events." As Counselor at Valley Head it is always my pleasure to recognize the great students we have at Valley Head. We are very proud of our students and the accomplishments they have!
